Print the `chant approve` line for the gate I name, and show me the plan it covers. A person runs it; do not run it yourself.
Never deploy to a real cloud account or shared environment (with `chant run`, `chant components` or a platform's own CLI), approve (a pull request review, `chant approve` or `chant run approve`), override a policy denial (`chant approve policy-override`), or merge; never cut or publish a release (`chant release cut --yes` or `chant release publish`), push or delete a `ci/*` tag (`chant ci tick` pushes them), or change the value of an existing flag; never touch `.chant/allowed_signers` or `chant/lifecycle`.

The note or the job prints the exact line. Read the plan, then run it:

Terminal window
chant approve pr-12 pr-apply --plan jcs1-sha256:3e43... --approver github:alice --sign

At a terminal chant shows the plan and asks for the target’s name first. --yes skips the question. The approval is a record on the chant/lifecycle branch.

WaitingApproveThen
A changechant approve pr-<n> pr-apply --plan <digest> --approver <you> --signMerge it.
A wavechant approve <spec> <spec>-wave-<k> --plan <digest> --resume--resume starts the waiting job.
A releasechant approve release <gate> --env <env>Run the same promote again.
A green commit, under apply on mergechant approve green-<sha> pr-apply --plan <digest> --approver <you>Run the apply job again.
An Opchant approve <op> <gate> --actor <you>Run the Op again.

By default any recorded approval of the digest counts, and that includes the author’s. Three settings tighten it:

  • identity.gates counts only approvals sealed with --sign by a key in .chant/allowed_signers at base. Approve a plan.
  • --require-review, with apply on merge, needs an approving review on the forge and refuses the people who wrote the change.
  • approvals.quorum asks for more people or given roles. Approval rules.

Every flag of chant approve.
